Abstract

Pneumopericardium is a rare condition that can occur due to various causes. While the most common etiological cause is trauma, fistula formations that develop between the pericardium and air-filled or hollow organs can also lead to this condition. More rarely, pneumopericardium can be observed after pericardial infections caused by gas-producing microorganisms. Close monitoring of this condition is of great importance, as it carries the risk of cardiac tamponade and can have fatal consequences. In this article, a patient who developed pneumopericardium and pneumomediasinum after a chest tube was inserted after pneumothorax is presented.
